UP UNWEIGHTED CARVING

Goal

  • Initiate a carved turn through an up-unweighting movement.
  • Adding and Releasing pressure from the edge during a carved turn.
  • Sporty carving in challenging terrainin

Where

Moderately steep slope (blue to red run); well-prepared, grippy piste

How
At the end of the steering phase shorten the radius by increasing the edge angle. initiate with a dynamic extension of the legs, creating rebound and a quick and powerful knee impulse. the body’s centre of mass moves diagonally across the board. Change edges early in the turn.

A large edge angle is immediately created and the board is then steered along the side cut. The edge pressure is generated through a gradual downwards motion.

Stay in a neutral riding position throughout the turn.

Methodical progression

  1. Demonstration of the finished movement and adapted technical explanation
  2. Stationary exercise with three people: the learner stands in the middle with the board strapped in. Partners stand in front and behind, supporting toeside and heelside edging
  3. Pay attention to body angulation
  4. Turn toward the slope: pick up sufficient speed
  5. One-and-a-half turns
  6. Linking turns together
  7. Variation of speed, turn radius, and terrain
