CARVING LONG TURNS

Objective

Preparation for giant slalom, sporty and confident skiing at high speeds on hard pistes, carved turns in long radius.

Terrain: Moderately steep terrain

Movement Description
Carving long radius. Calm, movement-ready, stable body position over the skis. Skiing along the sidecut on the uphill edges. From the steering pressure (release), forward/inward tipping with edge change and weighting of the skis initiates the new change of direction. Situation-appropriate turning of the skis and pole plant support smooth turning. Complete the turn in the Alpine Basic Position (turning position). The outside ski is more heavily weighted and takes on the main part of the steering phase/main phase.

The inside ski is weighted as needed according to the situation.

Methodical Progression

  1. Fan progression to the fall line, precise steering along the sidecut
  2. Carving garland along the sidecut (with edge change)
  3. One-and-a-half turn
  4. Create contrasts: turns with drifting, transition to carving
  5. Direction changes using the ski’s sidecut near the fall line
  6. Stronger direction changes using the ski’s sidecut further out of the fall line
  7. Application in various situations
