PARALLEL TURNS DYNAMIC – SHORT RADIUS

Objective

Dynamic parallel turns in short radius with situation-appropriate stance.

Terrain: Moderately steep terrain

Movement Description
Rhythmic edge change leads to dynamic parallel turns in short radius. The legs swing back and forth under the upper body (edging, leg play). Skiing on the uphill edges. Turning the skis by situation-appropriate unloading and edge change – active weighting, turning, and edging – complete the turn in the Alpine Basic Position. The short, strong steering pressure supports the initiation of the turn and the movement sequence.

The pole plant helps maintain balance and serves as a rhythm aid.

Methodical Progression

  1. Dynamic parallel turns long radius – shorten radius – track skiing – single turns
  2. One-and-a-half turns (speed control)
  3. Link short radius turns, find rhythm through pole planting
  4. Vary radius, speed, and terrain
  5. Further rhythm development through formations: skiing in pairs (side-by-side, track skiing, shadow skiing); skiing in groups in unions
