CARVING TILT TURN

Goal

  • From drifting to carving
  • Linked, carved turns
  • Sporty snowboarding

Where

Wide, gentle slope (blue run); less crowded piste

How
The turn is initiated by shortening the radius at the end of the turn. This generates more pressure, causing the center of mass to tilt passively and diagonally over the board. The edge change then takes place.

To steer the turn and withstand the pressure, the board is set on a steep edge. From the fall line onward, this strong edging is further supported by a body angulation. Throughout the entire carving run, the neutral riding stance is maintained.

Methodical progression

  1. Demonstration of the finished movement and adapted technical explanation
  2. Stationary exercise with three people: the learner stands in the middle with the board strapped in. Partners stand in front and behind, supporting toeside and heelside edging. Pay attention to body angulation!
  3. Turn toward the slope: pick up sufficient speed
  4. One-and-a-half turns
  5. Linking turns together
  6. Variation of speed, turn radius, and terrain
