BACKSIDE 180°

Goal

  • Jump and spin 180° (backside rotation)
  • Regular and switch
  • Explain the difference between frontside and backside rotation

Where

Flat slope (blue run); well-groomed, grippy slope

How
Prepare the upper body by pre-rotating in the opposite direction of travel. Ollie either off a flat base or off the toe edge. In the air, rotate the body 180° in a backside direction. Land on the uphill edge of the board absorbing the jump with both legs. Engaging the new toe edge helps to stop the rotation impulse.

Methodical Progression

  1. emonstration of the finished form with a technical explanation.
  2. Stationary exercise: 180° jump in the flat (illustrate the backside rotation).
  3. Three-part turn: approach on the frontside edge in regular – stand still and jump onto the backside edge with little rotation – finish on heel-edge.
  4. Slowly increase the amount of rotation.
  5. Exercise in the traverse: start on the frontside edge.
  6. Turn to the slope: start on the frontside edge.
  7. Three-part turn: switch.
  8. Slowly increase the amount of rotation.
  9. Exercise in the traverse: switch riding.
  10. Linked backside 180° jumps.
