OLLIE/NOLLIE

Goal

  • Safe jumping off the ground
  • Building the foundation for jumping onto boxes and rails, and drop-ins in the halfpipe

Where

Very gentle slope with enough run-out or a counter-slope

How
After approaching in a low position, the jump is executed off both legs, but with a slight delay: the push-off begins with the front leg. This creates a slight backward lean, lifting the nose of the snowboard off the snow.

At this moment, the front leg is pulled up while the rear leg is extended, resulting in the take-off. Using the arms supports the motion and allows gaining more height.

In the air, the rear leg is also pulled up so that the board remains level. For the landing, the legs are lightly extended to prepare for impact and then flexed to absorb the landing evenly with both legs.

Methodical progression

  1. Demonstration of the final form and adapted technical explanation
  2. Exercise in standing position: practice jumping and landing on flat terrain
  3. Practice in the fall line
  4. Jumping over small obstacles (ropes, small snowmen, …)
