DOWN UNWEIGHTED CARVING

Goal

  • Initiate a turn through down unweighting.
  • Application of loading and unloading of the board during a turn.
  • Sporty carving in flat uneven terrain

Where

Moderately steep slope (blue to red run); well-prepared, grippy piste; possibly wave tracks or terrain rolls for special exercises

How

At the end of the steering phase shorten the radius by increasing the edge angle. initiate with a quick, dynamic bending of the legs, and a quick and powerful knee impulse. the body’s centre of mass moves down and diagonally across the board. Change edges early in the turn.

A large edge angle is immediately created and the board is then steered along the side cut. The edge pressure is generated through a gradual extension of the ankels, knees and hips.

Stay in a neutral riding position throughout the turn.

Methodical progression

  1. Demonstration of the finished form with a technical explanation.
  2. Stationary exercise: practice an active vertical movement on the spot; fast up and down movements from the legs.
  3. Straight run through bumpy terrain absorbing the bumps with the deepest position being at the top of the bump.
  4. One and a half turns with a fan progression: start in a high position – the edge change and downwards movement must occur simultaneously. Slowly extend the legs until the end of the turn.
  5. Linked turns
  6. Variation of tempo, radius, and terrain
