Goal
- Learning a new form of turn initiation
- Faster edge changes and earlier steering pressure
- Introduction to carving with down-unweightingg
Where
Moderately steep slope (blue to red run), so that steering pressure can be clearly felt
How
The turn is initiated by a quick downward movement, while the center of mass tilts forward and inward. At the same time, the board changes edges. This movement takes place immediately after the moment of maximum pressure.
Right after, the slow extension of the deeply bent legs begins, which continues throughout the steering phase of the turn. This movement is called the extension push. Throughout the entire run, the neutral riding stance is maintained.
Methodical progression
- Demonstration of the finished movement and adapted technical explanation
- Stationary exercise: practice vertical movement while standing with the snowboard strapped in; quick down and slow up
- Practice vertical movement while traversing
- Turn toward the slope: start low – rise slowly until the end of the turn
- One-and-a-half turns: start high – go low while changing edges – rise slowly again until the end of the turn
- Linking turns together
- Variation of speed, turn radius, and terrain
