Objective
Rhythmically linking direction changes in parallel short radius turns.
Terrain: Moderately Steep Terrain
Movement Description
Simultaneous edge change and rhythmic swinging of the legs under the upper body lead to parallel turns in short radius. Skiing on the uphill edges – initiation of the direction change through pronounced vertical motion (upward/downward), edge change, turning, weighting, and steering of the skis.
The pole plant supports parallel turns in short radius as a rhythm setter.
Methodical Progression
- Repeat parallel turns basic in long radius, shorten radius – track skiing, then single turns
- Leg rotation with vertical motion (flat terrain – slight deviation from direction, steeper terrain – greater deviation)
- Alpine Basic Position – vertical motion, turn toward the slope, pause (edge) – first without, then with pole plant (placement exercise)
- Link short radius turns
- Application in various situations
- Short radius turns in unison and simple formations
Tip
When following the methodical progression, pay attention to the correct snow conditions.
