Objective
Gliding with skis in the snowplough position. Braking and coming to a stop.
Terrain: Gently inclined slope – safe run-out area
Movement Description:
Straight gliding in the Middle Position – rise up – then, by lowering the body, simultaneously and evenly turn the ski tails outward. Bring the skis into the snowplough position. Slide on both inside edges. The upper body and arms maintain balance.
A wider snowplough and strong edging are used for braking and stopping.
Methodical Progression
- Practice different snowplough widths while stationary (stepping, jumping, turning)
- Snowplough in the run-out area
(Objective: angling out the ski tails) - Gliding snowplough while skiing downhill
(Objective: speed control) - Smaller snowplough / larger snowplough
(Objective: speed control) - Braking snowplough / stop snowplough (coming to a stop at a marker)
- Start in the snowplough – skiing in a snowplough away from the fall line
